Actions Influenced by Our Advocacy

In 2021, TCBA launched a Reimagining LTSS in TN campaign engaging members and stakeholders across the state. Through a series of virtual meetings, we developed guiding principles and advocacy priorities. This campaign has resulted in several positive actions at the state level.

  • In June 2021, TCBA sent recommendations to TennCare which helped inform their application for federal ARPA funds for HCBS.

  • In April 2022, following conversations with TCBA leadership, the TN Comptroller’s Office updated their Senior Long-Term Care in TN report providing trends and options for state leaders.

  • Following the TN Comptroller's report and advocacy by TCBA, the state invested an additional $30 million in HCBS to expand Choices Group 3 and OPTIONS programs.

  • In October 2023, TCBA leadership met with Gov. Lee's staff about restructuring aging and disability at the state level. The following week, the state announced plans to move TCAD to DIDD and create a new and improved department. We continued to meet with the administration and legislators, and are pleased to report Gov. Lee signed the Tennessee Disability and Aging Act, legislation that merges DIDD and TCAD, creating a new Department of Disability and Aging (DDA) on April 11, 2024.

"People with disabilities and older adults should have the opportunity to age in place while having independence, health, and a high quality of life. I’m excited to work with our partners in both communities to ensure the Department of Disability and Aging is doing all it can to support people to live the lives they envision for themselves.”
